Talking to fans at the ‘Day of the Doctors’ convention on Slough this weekend, Tom Baker, Doctor Who’s Fourth Doctor, said that he has been cast in the new Star Wars adventures.

“I’m going to be in this new Star Wars thing, you know?” he told eager fans as he signed his autograph. “I’m going down to record some voices for this new character they’ve created for me, very soon.”

It is not yet clear whether this is a new character for the upcoming movie, Episode VII: The Force Awakens, or for one of the animated series like The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, or something entirely new. No official announcement has yet been made so far as we know.

Tom, now 81 and still working on Big Finish audio adventures, has had an incredible career that only seems to get more and more interesting. At said signing, he had also been speaking about his encounter with Peter Jackson, and how he had been asked to be in The Lord of the Rings. However, the prospect of spending two years away from home did not appeal to him.

“I didn’t want to go away from home because I was happy!”

Baker’s fellow Doctor, Sylvester McCoy also talked about his audition and screen tests and how close he came to being cast as Bilbo Baggins in the original motion picture trilogy.

“They initially told me I was one of about eight actors in the running,” McCoy said, answering fan questions. “Then they told me there were six. Then it was four. Then it was just two and they told me ‘you’ll definitely get the job!’ and then who got it? Ian Holm! But now I am quite happy to be considered in such great company as with Ian Holm, wonderful actor that he is!”

Sylvester went on to be cast as Radagast the Brown in Jackson’s film trilogy adaptation of the Hobbit.

More news on Baker’s involvement in a galaxy far, far away as it develops!
