Live Long and Prosper: Vulcan Anthem

A Star Trek Fan-fic poem, by Avellina Balestri

Author’s Note: This is my adaptation of the English translation of the Vulcan Anthem, originally in the Vulcanian language, from the Star Trek fan-base. I do not lay claim to the original; only this variation, outlining the Vulcan philosophy. I dedicate this to all my Jewish friends, as I can’t help draw parallels between them and the rich culture of Vulcan, especially their language which sounds so similar to Hebrew. RIP, Leonard Nimoy.

Live long and prosper
Peace be to the soul
Mount of Selaya
So Beautiful
Live long and prosper
Strength through self-control
Logic for welfare
Peace to the soul

Children of Surak,
Hear the desert wind
Mind ancient wisdom
Steel yourselves within
Children of Surak,
Live with dignity
Logic for welfare
And humility

Prosper in peace
Go forth to heal the lands
Though harsh the battles
And the desert sands
Prosper in peace
Diversity is gain
Vulcan is mother;
You are her fame

Live long and prosper
Peace and common good
Mount of Selaya
Cross the plain of blood
Live long and prosper
Strength through self-control
Wisdom through logic
Peace to the soul

She reads and writes extensively, and eagerly seeks out the deeper spiritual significance of popular fandoms such as The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, Star Trek, Star Wars, and The Hunger Games. And yes, she does have a soft spot in her heart for classic Disney movies, The Princess Bride, and Merlin 😉 She is also a recording artist, singing traditional folk songs and her own compositions as well as playing the penny whistle and bodhran drum. She draws her inspiration from the Ultimate Love and Source of Creativity, and hopes to share that love and creativity with others.
