Assassin's Creed: Syndicate

A new major Assassin’s Creed game has just been revealed by the Quebec studio of Ubisoft. In their Live Stream, they have said that the game will focus on the “other” revolution, as opposed to the Industrial Revolution. In a world, ruled by money, your characters will fight so that the OPPRESSION HAS TO END.

It’s slated to be released on October 23rd & 24th on XBox and PS4, and later Autumn 2015 on PC.

What do we know about the new game now?

Assassin's Creed: Syndicate Teaser

It’s going to be called “Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate”, thought you may have heard it referred to as “Assassin’s Creed: Victory” previously when it was leaked last year by Kotaku. Set in Victorian London in 1868, during the Industrial Revolution it features two protagonists, Jacob and Evie, twin siblings, and it looks like Ubisoft have finally given a positive response to the backlash for not having any female characters in Unity.

Jacob is the hands-on and brutal one, Evie is rational and balanced. They operate with the help of street gangs, which operate in the slums, where the police fear to tread. The speed of combat is said to be faster than ever. That is due to the change of weapons, which make fighting much more like a brawl. The environment (i.e. boxes and barrels) can now be used to take out enemies.

Vehicles are a key new addition to “Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate”. They allow to create new action and adventure situations, having you jump on to carriages and take their reins. Collisions abound when you’re doing a classic chase scene, with enemy helpers trying to grab your carriage to kill. Trains will also change the way you play.

Assassin's Creed: Syndicate

There will be no multiplayer mode in “Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate”, but players will be able to switch between the two protagonists. It will be interesting to see if the plot will favour one over the other, or if it will leave enough room for choosing your own way.

The potential for some steampunk-style inventions and settings is very high in this game and the concept of Leonardo’s help in Assassin’s Creed 2 and Brotherhood, could be greatly expanded on. The imagery we have been shown so far frankly looks incredibly exciting – transport, money, recognisable London, Dickensian streets, Conan Doyle-style interactions. After watching the reveal all I can think is: I want “Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate”, it looks awesome.

Ubisoft is still pushing hard their favourite child this year: we’re reviewing “Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China” tomorrow and two more installments of the Chronicles series set in India and in Russia are to follow this year.
